This was a creative pitch to advertise the return of subtitles to Funimation streaming content. Advertising subtitles... with actual subtitles!
The evolution of the idea starts with the bottom image with a more traditional speech bubble and expected visual treatment and gets more refined until it reached the final concept stage (top image).
